q. How long in duration
is the apprenticeship?
a. 4 years, unless the JATC gives you credit for previous electrical
trade work and/or classroom experience. After completion you will be classified as a Journeyman Electrician.
q. When will I go to
school?
a. You will attend a 10 hour daytime class once every two weeks.
You will not earn any wages or benefits for your time spent in the classroom, but you will receive wages and benefits for all of your on the job training hours..
q. How much will
it cost to attend the apprenticeship school?
a. There is an initial tuition payment of $400 and then seven tuition payments of $300 are spread out over the duration of the apprenticeship program, equaling a total cost of $2500. These payments cover the cost of a set of hand tools, the curriculum textbooks, an updated code book, the electrical licencing exam fee, and instructional fees. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify through the Workforce Center.
q. Will I be working
for pay as an apprentice?
a. You will earn wages & benefits based on your pay
period for all of your On the Job Training (OJT) hours.
q. What is an apprenticeship
pay period?
a. The apprenticeship is divided into 6 pay periods or levels. They are
as follows:

To advance to the next pay period you must successfully complete your classroom activities and work the required number of On the Job

q. Is this apprenticeship
program accredited?
a. Yes. This program meets all of the requirements of, and is recognized
by, both State and Federal agencies that govern apprenticeship programs.
This program also meets all of the requirements of the G.I. Bill. Transcripts are available upon graduation and credits may be used at various institutions to obtain an associates degree.
q. What kind of work
clothing will I need?
a. Most electricians wear jeans, t-shirts & leather work boots. They also
have leather gloves and outdoor-wear readily available.

The Electrical Apprenticeship Opportunity
The Joint Apprenticeship
& Training Committee Of The Wichita Electrical Contracting Industry
Applications for the four year Electrical Apprenticeship will be accepted at either the Wichita Electrical Training Center or the Work Force Alliance Monday thru Friday, excluding holidays. A $25 (non-refundable) application fee (money order only, payable to W.E.J.A.T.C.) is required and due at application time.
Work Force Alliance Locations
All the
information listed under "Requirements" must be turned in within 45 days after application date. None
of the information will be returned. This information must remain in the
Electrical Training Center's files. All applications will be received without
regards to race, color, religion, national origin or sex. All applicants
must fully meet the following minimum requirements to qualify for an interview:
The J.A.T.C. will
interview each applicant who meets all the listed basic requirements. Interview
notices will be sent to the address shown on the application unless notified
of a change of address. Applicants will be selected as Apprentices in
order of their ranking resulting from the rating of their interview and
aptitude score. Applicants not selected will be placed on a 2-year book
according to their interview scores.
Applicants selected
to enter the Apprenticeship will be required to supply a record
showing negative results of a drug and /or alcohol abuse test at the time
and place designated by the J.A.T.C.

Requirements:
a. |
Must be at least
17 years of age at application, 18 years at time of selection and
indenture. |
b. |
Must be a high
school graduate, have a G.E.D., or have a 2 year Associate Degree
or higher. |
c. |
Must have completed,
with a passing grade, either one full year of High School Algebra
1 or an equivalent post-high school course. |
d. |
Must provide
official transcript(s) for high school and post-high school courses
and grades. |
e. |
Must achieve
a qualifying score of "4" or higher on the electrical trade's aptitude
test. This test was developed by the American Institute for Research. |
f. |
Must provide
evidence of having a valid Driver's License and Birth Certificate. |
g. |
Must be physically
able to perform the essential functions of the trade. Applicants
who are accepted may be required to provide the results of a physical
examination. |
h. |
Individuals who
can verify (proper documentation required) that they have worked a
minimum of 4000 hours specifically in the Electrical Construction
Trade, do not need to meet requirements of items (b) and (c). |
i. |
Individuals who
have worked a minimum of 4500 hours as a Residential Wiremen under
an IBEW/NECA Local Collective Bargaining Agreement (proper documentation
required) do not need to meet the requirements of items (b) and (c). |
j. |
Individuals who
have completed at least 3 years of related instruction and 4500 hours
of OJT as indentured apprentices in a properly registered Electrical
Construction Apprenticeship Program not sponsored by IBEW/NECA (proper
documentation required) do not need to need the requirements of items
(b) and (c). |
k. |
If you are a
veteran you must submit a DD-214 to verify military training and /
or experience if you wish to receive consideration for said training
and / or experience. |
