Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 271 was chartered April 10,1914.
This is our 85th Anniversary. We cover inside electrical work, maintenance,
teledata and radio TV broadcast. We were originally chartered as Local Union
144 in 1900. That charter went defunct in 1907. Local Union 271 got two
electrical contractors to sign contracts in 1918. Shelley Electric and Southwestern
Electric are still in business and are still signatory. In 1946 the local
union bought the building on south Broadway. The local union is still located
there and now is using the entire building. In 1954 the Boeing maintenance
electricians voted to be represented by the IBEW. That group has grown to
over 250 today. This is a small example of how the local is adapting to
it's ever changing environment. While the electrical industry is rapidly
changing the local union remains committed to its roots: organizing all
workers in the electrical industry and raising the standard of living for
all. |
