The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 271 was chartered April 10,1914.

In 1918 Shelley Electric and Southwestern Electric became the first two Electrical Contractors to sign contracts with Local Union 271.  They are still signatory today, along with 30 other Electrical Contractors.

In 1946 the local union bought the building located at 1040 S. Broadway and is still located there.

In 1954 the Boeing maintenance electricians voted to be represented by IBEW 271. When Spirit purchased the commercial side, the maintenance electricians were split into two units, the Boeing unit and the Spirit Unit.  Both of these groups are represented by IBEW 271.

We are now in our 97th year and we currently represent almost 900 construction electricians, maintenance electricians, and teledata workers.

While the electrical industry is rapidly changing, Local Union 271 remains committed to its roots: organizing all workers in the electrical industry and raising the standard of living for all.
